The time when design was all about purpose and function is long gone. And that’s why the Locust 904 looks seriously good, whatever way you look at it. This machine, with its open side covers, looks a bit like a mechanical insect. Which actually isn’t that far from the truth, because Locust translates to grasshopper.
There are many more interesting details in the design of our newspaper. The rear fascia or engine cover with holes copying the shape of the honeycomb cells is also unmissable, but the orange side boxes above the rear wheels probably “shine” the most.
These oddly shaped brackets aren’t just there to look different. In fact, they make regular servicing a lot easier. Under their covers are the battery with disconnector, the fuel filler filler neck, the air filter, the additional cooling fan for the hydraulics, as well as the washer fluid reservoir and the hydraulic oil filler neck.
The two main tanks – for diesel and hydraulic oil – are cleverly integrated directly into the machine’s steel frame. Thanks to design changes and a different layout of some of the functional groups, space has been created underneath the aforementioned boxes to accommodate additional weights. Without these, the L904 has a load capacity of 900 kg, with counterweights this increases to an even 1,000 kg.
